Rap superstar Tupac was gunned down when the Cadillac he was travelling in with Suge Knight was blitzed with bullets after a row at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas more than 20 years ago.
Since then, a number of wild conspiracy theories have been put forward as to “what really happened” on the night the How Do U Want It singer was killed.
Perhaps the wildest claim of all is that Tupac is still alive and living in Cuba.
In a bizarre intervention last year, Suge Knight’s son, Suge Knight Jr, appeared to throw his weight behind the theory that his uncle was not dead.
In a series of now-deleted Instagram posts, the son of the Death Row Records mogul suggested that Tupac did not die as a result of gunshot wounds on September 7, 2016.
“That man’s family is my family”
Suge Knight Jr.
Knight shared a number of comments including “Tupac is alive” and “He never really left us” along with Photoshopped images of Tupac posing with 50 Cent and Beyonce.
The 23-year-old then appeared to double-down on the wild claims in January this year by announcing that Tupac was “back in the studio” with “new music coming”.
He alleged that Tupac is alive, living in Malaysia and recording new music. The 23-year-old also implied that the Illuminati had silenced Tupac and were now chasing him for “saying too much”.
But the reality TV star backtracked on the bizarre claims during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, adding that there would be further clarifications to come.
He said: “When I said it, the whole world stopped moving. Everybody was like, ‘What’s going on?’
“I went and got 200,000 followers within two days”
He went on: “And I was like, ‘Wow, like this is, this is crazy. Germany’s calling me [to do interviews], and I don’t even speak German!’ So, I don’t even know what to do.
“Pretty much the reason why I did it, there’s a purpose for it, and you actually have to tune into the show to see why. I know people are expecting new music of his too. So, you guys got to tune in.”
Knight Jr’s comments on Instagram drew the ire of thousands of Tupac fans, with many accusing him of being disrespectful to his uncle’s memory.
However, he claimed he meant “no disrespect”.
He concluded: “That man’s family is my family. … It’s a real good message why I did it. It’s like, it makes the world reflect on ourselves. … I don’t want to ruin it. It’s an important message. Tupac’s my godfather. That’s all I have to say.”
Knight Jr’s father is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence at San Diego RJ Donovan Correctional Facility for voluntary manslaughter.
