But it reported that internet sex videos have been a positive influence on those previously struggling between the sheets.

The Sunday Times survey found that 58 per cent of Brits watch porn. Of those, 87 per cent said it had helped their sex lives and 77 per cent claimed it had been good for their relationships.

And 61 per cent say porn has made them more adventurous.

But the survey also revealed worrying trends — with 31 per cent thinking porn is similar to real sex, and 29 per cent saying their taste has become “less mainstream”.

And eight per cent of Generation Z — aged 22 and under — say they first went online to view sex vids aged under 12.

BODY IMAGE

Lesbian sex is the most popular genre overall — but Gen Z most enjoy watching “rough sex”.

Meanwhile, many felt porn had a negative effect on their real-life romps, with most of these finding it more difficult to get aroused.

It was also bad for body image, according to 23 per cent.

ROUGH SEX

Among the 68 per cent of people watching it each week, Pornhub is the most-visited adult website. Overall, it found women are now twice as likely as men to want to watch rough stuff.

Raunchy videos featuring hair-pulling, biting, slapping, choking and other acts were a turn-on for 37 per cent, compared with 19 per cent of men.

British Psychoanalytic Council chair Susanna Abse said: “Women are less comfortable with their own aggressive feelings so in fantasy they reverse their wishes and place them into men.

“This is probably the basis for all sado- masochistic impulses.

“It is important to emphasise that what women fantasise about doesn’t mean they want (it) in reality.”

In the survey of 5,690 people, almost two-thirds were in favour of the Government’s plans to bring in age verification.
