United handed Champions League boost as trio of PSG players ruled out

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed Champions League lifeline with Marco Verratti and Mauro Icardi ruled out of PSG clash

  • Paris Saint Germain are suffering injuries ahead of facing Manchester United
  • Marco Verratti, Mauro Icardi and Thilo Kehrer are all set to miss the fixture
  • United face a daunting European group with RB Leipzig and Istabul Basaksehir

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be counting his lucky stars after a trio of Paris Saint Germain stars have been ruled out of the upcoming Champions League clash.

Influential trio Marco Verratti, Mauro Icardi and Thilo Kehrer have each been sidelined and now stand as highly unlikely to feature in the match in Paris on Tuesday night.

Verratti has picked up a thigh issue while on international duty with Italy, while striker Icardi is still on the comeback trail from a knee injury.

Both players were key components in PSG’s run to the final last season, and will be missed by the Parisians as they lock horns with Solskjaer’s men.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has also admitted this week that a hamstring injury is set to keep German defender Kehrer out for ‘a few weeks’ meaning he will miss the fixture.

United face a tough task to navigate from the groups after also being pitted against RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir.

United find themselves in a spell of poor form following a miserable start to the Premier League season.

Solskjaer’s men travel to St James’ Park on Saturday to face a Newcastle side who they were defeated by last season.

Meanwhile, in France, PSG have clicked into top gear as usual.

On Friday night the Parisian smashed four goals past Nimes despite their injury woes, with Kylian Mbappe providing a brace.

Both Julian Draxler and defender Marquinhos missed the clash, though are expected to return in time to be included in the squad to face United next week.
