Unluckiest zebra ever escapes crocodile-infested river – only to get attacked by lions

The incredible footage – taken from the Maasai Marai National Reserve in Kenya – begins with a herd of zebra frantically charging through a crocodile-infested river.

Most manage to get through apart from one, whose fate appears to be sealed as several of the fearsome predators begin circling it.

The footage then shows a successful zebra running for freedom from the river – only to be confronted by two lionesses.

It dodges the first but then gets attacked by a second, who manages to drag its body to the ground.

The original lioness joins the party and the two big cats being sinking their teeth into their prey’s body.

Its energy slowly seeps away from it and by the end of the clip, the zebra is lying motionless.

More than 60,000 people have seen the clip since it was posted to YouTube by Maasai Sightings Worldwide on July 19.

According to the description, the zebras were crossing the river as part of a mass migration.

The lions knew that and were waiting for their chance to pounce on the other side.

After watching the clip, one viewer wrote: “Wow out of the frying pan and into the fire. Such a tough life out there.”

Another added: “Talk about having a bad day.”

And a third commented: “Survival in the wild is so tough.”

But the kings of the animal kingdom aren’t always successful in their attack bids.

Amazing footage surfaced last week of a lioness getting seriously embarrassed by an antelope’s turn of speed.
