Two northbound lanes on Florida’s Turnpike were closed after an SUV caught fire on the shoulder Friday afternoon, Lauderhill fire officials said.
The fire erupted between Surnise and Oakland Park boulevards, according to a tweet and a photo posted by Lauderhill Fire Rescue at about 2:40 p.m.
One photo showed a huge plume of black smoke rising from the vehicle. Another showed an SUV fully engulfed in bright orange flames.
Firefighters from Lauderhill and Tamarac went to the scene to fight the fire.
