When confronted, Beech denied all knowledge, even suggesting at one point that his own son may have been responsible for downloading the material.
And at the same time Beech was viewing appalling images and lying, he was sitting as a governor at two local schools, even serving terms as the chairman at Beech Green Primary School and vice-chairman at Severn Vale School, Gloucestershire.
He was sacked only after it emerged that he had been arrested and charged with the offences.
Last month he was jailed for 18 years for perverting the course of justice, fraud and a string of paedophile offences.
There is now growing pressure on the Government to order an inquiry into the handling of the investigation by the Met.
