What has Brooke been accused of?

The YouTuber claimed she “accidentally” uploaded footage to her channel that appeared to show her beating her Doberman named Sphinx.

The clip sees her hitting the poor pooch several times, shouting at him as well as forcefully shoving him to the ground as she tried to film a video for her followers.

In the video she appears to smack Sphinx before shouting “No” at him.

When he jumps up at her again, she seems to pin him to the floor and appears to spit on him.

She claims she uploaded the distressing footage by mistake after posting a final version of the film called “Plastic Wrap Prank on my Doberman!”

Many of her followers chalked up the distressing scene to animal abuse.

What has been said about it?

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Animal Cruelty unit is investigating the footage and reportedly decided to allow Houts to keep her dog, according to TMZ.

It is understood they don’t believe the dog is in immediate danger

Controversial YouTuber Logan Paul said the video was “remarkably grotesque” in a Twitter post and claimed Houts was just putting on an act for the video.

He also claimed she spat on Sphinx, writing: “Discipline your animals should they misbehave. i get it. but despite the hitting, the spitting is a totally unwarranted, inappropriate, and vile display of energy that makes this woman completely unfit to own that dog.”

Animal welfare organisation Peta also tweeted: “Dogs deserve respect. If you can’t treat dogs with kindness and instead hit them, don’t get one. Attn@YouTube: Please remove Brooke Houts from your platform.”

What has Brooke said about the allegations?

Brooke issued a lengthy apology, saying: “I am NOT a dog abuser or animal abuser in any way, shape, or form.

“Anyone who has witnessed or heard true animal abuse will be able to clearly see that.

“My dog, in no way, shape, or form was hurt by any action that I displayed in this video.”

She also claimed she didn’t spit on the dog, writing: “I did NOT spit on my dog, but I understand how it could look like I did. Did I get in his face and take unnecessary actions towards him? Yes I did, and that was not the way I should’ve handled the situation. Did I spit on my dog? No.”

She also claimed it was too expensive to hire a trainer for him.
