THE Queen’s second son Prince Andrew will proudly walk Princess Eugenie down the aisle today as millions witness the second royal wedding of the year.
Here’s what we know about the 59-year-old father and former pilot, whose relationship with former wife Sarah Ferguson has kept a generation of royal fans in thrall.
Who is Prince Andrew?
Andrew Albert Christian Edward was born in Buckingham Palace on February 19, 1960, the third child of Queen Elizabeth.
He was the first child born to a reigning monarch since Queen Victoria gave birth to her youngest child Princess Beatrice in 1857.
At 13 he went to school in Gordonstoun, Scotland, where he gained A-Levels in English, history, economics and political science.
After finishing school he decided against going to university and in 1978 enrolled in the Royal Navy.
He completed his pilot training and remained on board the ship Invincible as a helicopter co-pilot during the Falklands War despite warnings he could be assassinated.
Following his return from the Falklands War and until his marriage to Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew dated actress Koo Stark before they split in 1982.
When did he marry Fergie and who are his daughters?
The couple had met occasionally at polo matches but met again at Royal Ascot in 1985, and married the next year on July 23.
Prince Andrew designed the engagement ring himself, consisting of ten diamonds surrounding a Burmese ruby, to complement Sarah’s red hair.
During their 10-year marriage, they had two daughters, Princesses Beatrice born in 1988 and Eugenie, born in 1990.
While the exact reason behind Andrew and Fergie’s break-up remains unknown, they announced their “amicable split” in 1992 and divorced in 1996 amid feverish media speculation.
The two appear to have retained a life-long friendship and still share a home together.
He has spoken fondly of his former wife, saying: “We have managed to work together to bring our children up in a way that few others have been able to and I am extremely grateful to be able to do that.”
MORE ON PRINCE ANDREW
What is his net worth?
Prince Andrew has an estimated net worth of around £62million, according to The Richest.
This pales in comparison compared to his mother The Queen, who is worth at least £498m.
While Prince Charles’ income derives from the Duchy of Cornwall, which according to some experts is worth more than £755m.
Campaigners have argued that Prince Andrew should pay the £2m security bill for Princess Eugenie’s wedding himself, rather than it being funded by the public purse.
