McMahon, 73, is still the final authority on everything that goes on in WWE and is present at every single Raw and SmackDown.
WWE fans have been expecting his son-in-law Triple H to be the one to take over the company with his wife Stephanie.
Wrestling insiders have however claimed The Game is the “most frustrated person backstage every night”.
Triple H has publicly praised McMahon’s direction for the company, but there have been murmurings for friction between the two.
Rumours have surfaced once again after a source allegedly linked to the WWE writing team called into the Post Pro-Wrestling Show hosted by grappling pundit Wade Keller.
“The most frustrated person in the back every single night is Triple H. ”
The source said: “No one should rip on WWE creative. They have some of the most brilliant, unbelievable cool ideas that I’ve ever heard.
“We’re writing for an audience of one and never forget that [and if not] you’re out of here.
“The most frustrated person in the back every single night is Triple H.
“He’ll always take, especially the NXT guys, under his wing. It looks like he’s consoling them.
“It looks so much like he was the most frustrated person in the building every single night.”
It is alleged the caller is a close friend of three WWE writers – and they had been drinking and venting about McMahon.
The source also claimed McMahon doesn’t watch developmental brand NXT, alleged the boss doesn’t follow the “real world”, and said there was no chance of Vince stepping down.
NXT stars are often called up to the main roster, but many stand-outs of the black and yellow brand tipped for greatness end up floundering on Raw and SmackDown.
The claims come after fans levied criticism at WWE following the “Super Star Shake-Up” which was supposed to reorganise wrestlers onto Raw and SmackDown.
Only much of this was undone when McMahon announced the “Wild Card Rule” on TV the following week – rendering much of the previous programming completely pointless.
Triple H fuelled the fire of reports of a backstage feud last month with a seemingly wayward “like” on Twitter.
The Game was caught having favourited a tweet criticising Vince McMahon and current storylines in WWE.
“Vince McMahon, maybe the problem with the Raw and SmackDown ratings isn’t due to wrestlers injured, it’s that you put confusing and pointless storylines,” the fan had written.
The 14-time world champion “liked” the post – but it was quickly removed from his page within a couple of hours.
WWE are reportedly dealing with flagging ratings as they recorded their lowest numbers outside of the holiday season.
The company is however worth even more than ever – and McMahon is worth an estimated $3.3 billion.
In a previous interview, Triple H said: “He found himself as a business man but that’s what he loves to do and he’s awesome at it, and that is his passion.
“He won’t give that up, not because he should – it’s his passion.”
WWE travels across the US and around the world 52 weeks a year, putting on the two live TV shows a week plus un-televised house shows.
Vince’s daughter Stephanie and Triple H have been married since 2003 after an on-screen coupling blossomed into real romance.
Triple H and Vince are known to have bonded over their love of bodybuilding – with both being fitness fanatics.
And meanwhile, the wrestling landscape is changing as rival firm All Elite Wresting – bankrolled by Fulham boss Tony Khan – announced they have scored a TV deal in the US.
