Batista – now a successful Hollywood star – returned to Raw for the first time in five years for a shocking comeback.
WWE fans were ready for the festivities to mark Flair’s birthday with a party to end the show.
Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Sting, Kurt Angle and the rest of the WWE roster were all on hand to mark the occasion.
Backstage however Batista had stormed the WWE arena and ambushed the 70-year-old in the locker room.
Wrestling fans are convinced it is setting up a bout between Triple H and Batista at WWE’s biggest show the year at WrestleMania.
“Do I have your attention now?”
WWE stars had gathered in the ring preparing to celebrate Flair’s platinum birthday with a custom World Heavyweight Championship present to close out the feel-good Raw.
The episode had seen Roman Reigns reveal his cancer was in remission after having to step away from the ring to fight leukaemia.
It all came to a screeching halt however when the camera cut backstage and revealed Batista.
The six-time world champion dragged a cameraman to door of Flair’s dressing room – before going inside.
Batista, 50, then brutalised Flair before dragging his limp body out for the cameras.
In a direct message Triple H, The Animal said: “Hey Hunter. Do I have your attention now?”
WWE’s boss then ran backstage, but it was too late – Batista had already left, leaving behind Flair’s broken body in his wake.
Triple H and Batista had already clashed on the 1,000th episode of SmackDown at a reunion of their old team Evolution, with The Animal reminding The Game he had never beaten him one-on-one.
Evolution used to be the team of Batista, Triple H, Randy Orton and Ric Flair – with the group dominating Raw from 2003 to 2005.
It all imploded in the lead up to WrestleMania 21 however, when Batista turned on Triple H.
He then proceeded the beat The Game for his World Heavyweight Championship – defeating him twice more in rematches to secure his place at the top of WWE.
Batista left wrestling full-time in 2010, and after a brief MMA career – which saw him win his one fight – he picked up a career in Hollywood, starring in hits such as Guardians of the Galaxy and James Bond film Spectre.
The 6ft 6in, 290lb, beast made a brief return in 2014, which saw him suffer fan backlash – eventually transforming from a returning hero to a bitter villain.
He won the Royal Rumble that year and headlined WrestleMania, but ended up tapping out to then rising star Daniel Bryan.
Batista is known for his powerhouse style in the ring, and is the longest reigning World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history with 282 days.
Meanwhile, there is chaos backstage in WWE as Vince McMahon sacked the legendary Arn Anderson after an “incident”.
