Triple H – a WWE legend turned backstage chief – was speaking ahead of NXT TakeOver: XXV on a conference call.
NXT is known to be the 14-time world champion’s pet project, creating a proving ground for young wrestlers.
Rival firm All Elite Wrestling (AEW) however held its first show last week and fans are abuzz – with Vince McMahon reportedly “furious”.
During the show, AEW boss and wrestler Cody Rhodes smashed up a throne resembling Triple H’s famous cross logo.
And it came after Triple H threw a jab at AEW during Billy Gunn’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame along with DX.
“I’m not focused or thinking about anyone else”
Speaking last night, Triple H said: “At the Hall of Fame and with Billy there, there’s this moment where if you don’t say there’s an elephant in the room, everyone goes, ‘So why didn’t you mention the elephant in the room?’
“It was nothing more than that, and with DX, if we don’t do that, then we’re not doing what we do.”
Triple H remained tightlipped on Rhodes’ big swing at him during AEW’s first show Double of Nothing.
He added: “I don’t even really think about it to be honest.”
NXT TakeOver: XXV is an anniversary show for the brand which was set-up as a weekly show in 2012.
It has seen WWE train or refine talents such as Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre and Charlotte.
The show has become a critical hit, and is seen is being for a more for a more hardcore niche of fans than Raw and SmackDown.
Triple H oversees the show, and spoke on the call once again about making it a true fan for WWE.
And even with the competition of AEW looming, The Game said he was determined just to make the best of NXT.
Triple H said: “When it comes to this TakeOver, I just wanna put on the best product possible.
“I’m not focused or thinking about anyone else. I’m focused on this Saturday at TakeOver XXV.”
He went on: “I think as you start something, how do you make it have its own identity in and of itself?
“Not be a version of something and not be similar – have it be standalone.”
Triple H revealed it is a “team” that he works with alongside his pal Shawn Michaels to put together TakeOver.
He said: “This is the culmination and epic fight scene in the movie.
“The writing and build-up of characters and everything that goes into making that epic fight scene mean something is what takes place prior to that at those one-hour shows.”
And discussing the wrestlers on his crew, he added: “That’s been a learning curve for me and a unique experience to learn from these men and women as they come into the system.
“It’s not about them all coming from the same place, whether indies wrestling or from another company, they’ve all had a different journey.”
NXT TakeOver: XXV will see NXT champ Johnny Gargano defend his belt against Adam Cole, while women’s champ Shayna Baszler will face Io Shirai.
There will also be a four corners ladder match for the NXT Tag Team Championships – and North American champ Velveteen Dream will face Tyler Breeze.
AEW has been positioning itself as a direct rival to NXT, featuring legendary stars such as Chris Jericho and Jim Ross.
Wrestling fans have long been hopeful for a real rival to emerge to WWE to recreate the creative boom period of the late 90s.
WWE famously engaged in the Monday Night Wars with billionaire Ted Turner’s WCW, until Vince McMahon’s firm swallowed their rival in 2001.
