Zara Tindall is the daughter of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips and the Queen’s second oldest grandchild. She married union rugby player, Mike Tindall on 30 July 2011, eight years after they first met in 2003. Since getting married, they have had two children together, Mia Grace Tindall, five, and Lena Elizabeth Tindall, one. Unlike other royals, Zara keeps a low-profile and her wedding was different to others royals in some key ways.
The engagement ring
Unlike some members of the Royal Family before and after him, Mike chose not to propose with a family heirloom.
Around the same time, Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with the wedding ring which once belonged to his mum, Princess Diana.
However, Mike decided to design his own ring for his bride and opted for a modern diamond and platinum ring with a divided diamond band.
The wedding venue
Zara has a number of royal cousins including Prince William, 37, Prince Harry, 34, Princess Beatrice, 30, and Princess Eugenie, 29.
While they chose to get married in Westminster Abbey in London or Windsor Castle, Zara and Mike tied the knot at the Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland.
They also opted for a much more modest guest list, with around 400 people turning up for the big day.
This is different from Kate Middleton’s wedding, which had around 1900 guests and Prince Harry who had 1200 members of the public alone invited to the grounds of the wedding.
The big day also marked Scotland’s first royal wedding in almost 20 years, since Princess Anne married Timothy Laurence in 1992.
Zara and Mike titles
While many members of the Royal Family are granted new titles when they marry, neither Zara or Mike were given one when they married.
When Mike married into the Royal Family, he was not given a royal title and it is something that even Zara does not have.
Due to a royal rule, she was not automatically given one at birth and Princess Anne reportedly turned down the Queen’s offer to give her one.
Formally Zara Phillips, the mum-of-two took her husband’s name and has since been widely known as Zara Tindall.
Since neither Zara or Mike have Her Royal Highness status, their two children have also missed out on getting this.
The family could only be given royal titles if it is something the Queen choses to grant.
